Transition Knee Guards

The Transition Knee Guards are the lightest, most flexible knee pads that 7 Protection makes, so they're perfect for riders who are looking for pedaling comfort with moderate downhill protection. They forgo straps and cinches in favor of a simple, stretchy pull-on sleeve, which incorporates mesh panels for ventilation and plenty of spandex for a secure fit. A soft 1mm pad covers the kneecap for impact protection, while foam around the edges provides abrasion protection while allowing plenty of airflow.

Maybe the best feature of the Transition, though, is its packability. Since it's made with soft foams and padding, it easily rolls up and stashes into a backpack or even a jersey pocket. You can go pad-free on the climb but pull the Transition on for some peace of mind on rocky, technical descents.

Nobody loves pads, but these are good

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

It's hard to love wearing knee pads, but when picking lesser of evils these are a solid choice. Are they comfortable? - In general yes. They warm up and flex nicely, so on climbs they don't rub or press very much. Do they stay in place? - Yes, thank God! I'm 5:9, 160 lbs and went with size S. For me they stay in place well, and I don't have to pull them up at all on long descents. This is clutch and much better than my downhill POC pads. What do I use them for? - I'll wear them at the bike park or on long shuttled trail rides. I live in NorCal, so I'd say that Downieville is the perfect place for these pads. Long descents with some climbs in between is no problem. I would not wear them; however, on long days with equal climbing and descending. This is not begrudging these pads in particular, but on those types of rides I just prefer to take my chances without pads.
